Starting of the week was a teaser for what could be an upcoming game in the Bravely series! Roughly translated, the series’ official Twitter account announced,
“I am at work! Good luck. This year there is another slightly different challenge, but I think I will make a good game. I hope many people will enjoy it”.
The latest title in the Bravely series, released in 2017, was a mobile game, which left many expectant console fans disappointed. There were a few people suggesting that a character called “Brave” in a Super Smash Ultimate datamine might link to this news, but I would suggest no one goes down that path… Speaking of Smash Ultimate, a modder, known as Mizumi, has managed to add a playable version of Waluigi into the game. I know many were hoping that the fabled villain would make a return in Smash Ultimate, but until that day comes, I’m sure fans of the character will be keeping a close eye on Mizumi’s work.
Following on from the good start to the week, it was announced that Paradox, the company behind popular strategy game series such as Europa, Cities: Skylines, and many others, has acquired the rights to Prison Architect from the original developers, Introversion Software. In a statement concerning the acquisition, Paradox CEO Ebba Ljungerud revealed that the company is,
“…eager to explore development of potential new games based off of the “Architect’ IP.”
Who knows what “Architect” games might be coming? All I really want is a “Hospital Architect” in the style on Prison Architect…that’ll be all.
Paradox wasn’t the only company to acquire new IP this week though, THQ Nordic, responsible for the release of over 10 titles on the Switch, has acquired to rights to the Outcast IP. This critically acclaimed title, release in 1999 for PC, is regarded as the game that sparked the open-world action adventure craze; and this was 2 years before GTA III. The “enhanced version” of the original game is available on Steam for $5.99/£4.79, or you can get the recently released remaster on Steam for $34.99/£29.99.
In some disappointing news for Visual Novel fans, PQube Games announced on Twitter, that
“…due to development issues, we regrettably have to announce the cancellation of Song of Memories on Switch as we wouldn’t be able to bring you the game to the level of quality that we strive to deliver. We apologize to all our fans.”
Although quite alarming that they couldn’t get a Visual Novel to run on the Switch, it is good that they have decided to not publish a broken title, unlike other developers.
Speaking of good developers, Matt Thorson, from Matt Makes Games, disclosed some interesting information regarding the upcoming FREE DLC for Celeste. In the tweet, Matt mentions that the DLC will all be “one continuous chapter”, and so no B-Side. It’ll also feature new items/mechanics, the hardest levels ever created, and no strawberries (the main collectable in the base game). Many are obviously incredibly excited for this DLC, but fans might need to wait a little longer, because it has also been announced that the update will NOT be ready for the game’s anniversary, 25th January. Here’s hoping it won’t be too long after that.
Finally, in the rumour mill, Metroid Prime 4’s release date may have been leaked by the Czech retailer, SuperGamer. On the pre-order website, it claims that the game is launching on 29th November 2019. Although this could simply be a placeholder, most placeholder dates are for the end of the year, thus adding credibility to the date. As always though, this hasn’t been confirmed, and so keep your expectations at a reasonably low level. Another rumour that everyone can get their hopes up for is from dataminer @KapuccinoHeck, who discovered that there were a lot of SNES games located around NES Online’s strings. Some of these games include Super Mario Kart, Zelda: Link to the Past, Star Fox, Kirby Super Star, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and many others. Although this isn’t confirmation that SNES games will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online, we can always hope that this is some hint towards them.
And that’s it. The first weekly rundown of news. To finish things of for this weeks roundup, here is Mario Kart being played on a Stadium Football screen…
Updates/Patches (Top 5):
Warframe “Fortuna” update - TBC - patch notes | announcement | Trailer
THE ORB VALLIS: Located in the eye of a snowstorm, The Orb Vallis was once a scorching wasteland. When the Solaris reactivated the Orokin coolant towers, life reappeared in the Vallis. Giant looming mushrooms sprung from the snow, and four-legged Virminks appeared in the valleys. Through their blood, sweat and tears, the Solaris terraformed this barren region into a beautiful, hospitable world — but the Corpus are destroying its delicate balance in their pursuit of profit.
FORTUNA & SOLARIS UNITED: Down in the underground city of Fortuna, you’ll meet the Solaris: a society of body-augmented individuals who live in debt-internment under Corpus rule. A colony all too familiar with the reality of being “repossessed” — cybernetic limb and organ removal by Nef Anyo’s repo squads. Yet in these cautious times, the Solaris are a hopeful community who pride themselves in their efforts to terraform Venus.
VOX SOLARIS QUEST: Eudico, the once proud leader of Solaris United, has been reduced to serving Nef Anyo under near slave-like conditions to keep the rig jockeys of Fortuna safe. Help her regain her will to fight so that she can stand up to Nef Anyo and bring back the Solaris United resistance.
Added in a new 'Motion Control' option to enable them only when aiming down the sights.
